[Banff, Alberta, Canada]

Whenever I edit my own photos– ones I don’t have to share with clients– I always opt to use a different style of editing than I normally do. It gives me the rare opportunity to play more with Photoshop, use an edit that does not necessarily make the people in the photo look their best [which is what I typically focus on in portraits and weddings], and do whatever I think looks interesting or cool. I don’t have to think about anyone else’s preferences but my own. So as I was editing all my ski photos from my family’s recent trip up to Canada, I decided to make this full blog post in black & white. It was pretty difficult to not share at least one in color considering the views and the colors of these mountains were astounding and gorgeous, but I love the feel of old-fashioned documentary images. I know I did not master editing in the specific way I had in mind to make them really appear like vintage photographs– I still have a lot to learn in Photoshop– but I love being able, every once in awhile, to edit in my own way.
